Business models & Pricing

ARPHA offers diamond and gold open-access publishing solutions, where the package of services and business models can be customised per journal. Below you can find further information on the Business & publishing models, Pricing plans and Services included in each plan.

ARPHA’s transparent operational models provide top-quality, inclusive and affordable journal publishing services with competitive and flexible conditions. You can find out more about our statement on high-quality, transparent, open and equitable scholarly publishing on our blog.

Please note that to be published on ARPHA, scientific journals must be compliant with the DOAJ publishing quality and ethics criteria. Please feel free to contact us at:

Business and publishing models

At ARPHA, we fully endorse the diamond open access publishing model and encourage our clients to seek the support of institutional, national and international funding bodies. However, we realise that many societies and institutions do not have access to the finances necessary to adapt to today’s technologically advanced and increasingly competitive scholarly publishing landscape and run their journals under a diamond open-access model. In the table below you can find various business models designed to match different needs and budgetary requirements.

Business and publishing models Costs to the journal owner/sponsor Costs to authors
Free to publish, free to read Diamond Open Access Annual journal maintenance fee and APC None
Free to read Gold Open Access Classic Annual journal maintenance fee APC

Gold Open Access Cost-Neutral (recommended for self-sustainable journals) None APC + surplus to cover the annual journal maintenance costs
Gold Open Access Sustainable (recommended for self-sustainable journals) None APC + surplus to cover the annual journal maintenance costs and generate a reasonable income for the journal
